What Is Lasik Profiling?

Those of you who have 20/20 vision are very fortunate. You have never had to rummage through drawers to find glasses or had to rely on contact lenses in order to see. Many people with 20/20 vision take it for granted and do not understand that there are many who cannot see in front of them without glasses or contact lenses. When someone had perfect vision before, people felt they were fortunate. Now, however, anyone can have perfect vision, even those who were born without it.

Lasik eye surgery has been around for a while. It involves using laser treatments to repair or rebuild damaged cornea. The cornea has usually not developed properly, for one reason or another. The most popular reason for using Lasik surgery is to repair myopia, which is nearsightedness. This is a condition that someone is usually born with and results in not being able to see objects that are far away. Many people suffer from myopia and it is usually diagnosed around the age of eight.

Not everyone is a candidate for this surgery. The eye surgeon will have to examine your eye as well as take a look at your history before making a determination. Some people with astigmatism are not candidates and others are. This is why it is so important to check with the doctor for a full exam. Before you get all excited about the laserr therapy treatment, you want t make certain that you are a candidate for the procedure.

If the corneas are too damaged, for whatever reason such as an accident, then laser surgery may not be an option. This is often the case with astigmatism in which the corneas are severely damaged. However, in some cases, the corneas can be rebuilt. There are several different methods used in Lasik eye surgery, the most popular being the eximer laser treatment. Laser surgery has been around for the past 20 years with much success. While not everyone achieves perfect vision after the surgery, the success rate is about 90 percent. If your doctor feels that you are a candidate for corrective laser therapy, he or she will tell you and you can pretty much count on having better vision.

While not all patients who submit to lasik surgery can walk away without wearing corrective lenses, most will be able to toss out their glasses and contacts as they will begin to see clearly and normally, some for the first time in their lives, without glasses.

Corneas are repairable, which makes them the ideal target for lasik therapy. Because they can be repaired or even rebuilt using laser technology, many people who were imprisoned with corrective lenses are now able to drop the glasses altogether after receiving laser therapy. Not everyone was able to get rid of all lenses completely, but again, the procedure has been shown to work on 90 percent of the patients on who it is performed, so the odds are with you that it will work on you, too.
