After Lasik Eye Surgery: What To Expect

After Lasik eye surgery, the cornea of the eye needs to heal. Care and time are both needed in order to correct any vision problems you once had. Expect to follow up with the doctor at least five times in the six months after your Lasik surgery.

You will most likely visit the doctor within 24 hours after the Lasik surgery. Lasik surgery actually reshapes the cornea surface and creates vision problems such as myopia. One good thing about the eye is that it has an amazing ability to heal.

Expect to wait about six months after the Lasik surgery for a complete healing. You will not have discomfort during this time, however. There may be a bit of stinging in the eyes after the surgery that can be alleviated with drops. This should only last for about two weeks after the surgery, after which time it is much easier recovery time.

The doctor will keep track of the healing process and make sure that everything is going on schedule, which is the reason why it is so important to continue visits with the doctor. Do not feel that because the laser surgery was a success and is over that you do not have to see the doctor. Follow up is crucial to make sure that the surgery was a success.

You may have dryness in the eyes which can be cured with drops. Another thing you can expect after Lasik surgery is some blurry vision. This will not last long. Your eyes may be sensitive to light and may even be watery. Watery eyes usually go hand in hand with a runny nose, so keep tissues handy during this period. For the most part, however, discomfort from the surgery are minimal.

During the six months when your eyes are healing, you should wear sunglasses when out in the sunlight. This is a good idea even if you are not healing from post Lasik eye surgery. You will also want to make sure that you get some extra sleep for a few days after the surgery. The more your eyes are closed, the quicker they will heal. Close your eyes when possible after the surgery to give them the maximum healing time possible and achieve quicker results.

After the Lasik surgery you will get an eye mask to wear. This is an important part of the healing process and must be worn for three hours after the surgery. This can be a good time to take a nap. You must then wear it at night for three weeks. The day of the Lasik surgery, you should take off from work. If possible, schedule the surgery for a Thursday and take a long weekend. You can be ready to return to work on Monday feeling refreshed.

Lasik eye surgery is well worth any price and slight healing provisions that must be made in order to see clearly without the aid of contact lenses or eyeglasses.
